COSECAM Conducted Organizational Management Training Program
With generous and effective support from the ANESVAD, the IHRD Program of COSECAM conducted a pilot project called Organizational Management Training Program to upgrade the capacity of 26 coalition members in the areas of Organization Management from March 2007 to February 2008. The training was conducted at the COSECAM Training Room and at PANNASATRA UNIVERSITY.
The objective of the Training was to improve the organizational and program management and coordination capacity of 30 managerial staff within coalition members and other relevant agencies addressing the needs of children who are victims of (sexual) assault, exploitation or neglect in Cambodia.
The Training courses included: Strategy Formulation and Project Design; Leadership; Cultural aspect and Ethical; Proposal writing; Fund raising and Donor Networking; Project Monitoring and Evaluation; Institutional Development; and Coordination and Human Resource Management. Technical Training included: Investigation skills; Conflict Management; and Advocacy. Training materials and resources were also supplied to participants.
This pilot project saw COSECAM working in cooperation with PANNASATRA University, a famous University in Cambodia, and the Cambodia Development Resource Institute.
The training methodology was selected to encourage an interactive environment which allowed participants to share their knowledge and skills and incorporate personal experiences into the Training Workshop.
Each course had a three-step approach; the first step focusing on theoretical aspects, the second, on discussion of related case studies and then forming the group discussions as project working groups; and the third, on encapsulating practical results of the project working groups in the presentations. All sessions were highly participatory. During the practical sessions, Trainers provided direct support to participants.
In evaluation of the Training Program, the majority of participants felt they had enhanced their levels of knowledge and skill in term of Leadership, Project Formulation, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Human Resource Management, Investigation, Advocacy and Conflict Management. Trainers observed that participants were eager to learn and answered questions correctly in the review session of each course. Participants raised interesting issues, supported each other and listened t other participant’s comments or questions. Participants noted they found it helpful to learn about Organizational Management through consideration of workplace examples that were easy for them to relate to.
The training curriculum has been modified and improved based on feedback from the participants.
