COSECAM conducted a "Girls Speak Out" wrokshop on 28th November 2007

Girls Speak Out Sunday Workshop

Advocacy Team in cooperation with IHRD program organized one day workshop on 03 May 2009 for 24 girls those who are from various organizations, for example, CWDA, KMR, KnK, CCPCR, HCC, and Gouttedeau Neak Loeung. The meeting was started at 7:30am to 16:30pm at COSECAM training room.


The purposes of the workshop were:

  1. To update the achievement of Peer Educator Group;
  2. To strengthen and improve the abilities of Peer Educator Group how to facilitate meeting/workshop;
  3. And to share lesson learnt and good practice of Peer Educator Group

First of all, Mr. KEO Sam Oeun, Advocacy Program Officer, welcomed participants and opened the workshop by telling the purposes of the workshop. Later on, Mr. KEO Sam Oeun gave the floor for participants reported their achievement after previous workshop. According to the plenary report results, most of all participants have shared their knowledge which they obtained from the workshop to their friends and neighbor at school and community where they are studying and working.

After participants reported their results, Mr. KEO Sam Oeun presented the group on the topic of facilitator skill which is an essential skill for all managers, trainers, and consultants. He highlighted that the characteristic of facilitators are knowledge, skills, and values. The facilitators need knowledge of both theory and practice. In addition to the knowledge, facilitators also require various skills such as communication skills and human skills. The broad variety of communication skills of facilitators includes speaking, listening, questioning, paraphrasing, observation, feedback, and summarizing.

Mr. KEO Sam Oeun divided all participants into four groups by contributing a lesson plan on Human Trafficking to each group for application of facilitation skills. After 1h 30mn application through small group assignment, each group reported and made a presentation to plenary. One among four groups was selected to facilitate the lesson plan on Human Trafficking for a whole group. At the end of the session, Mr. KEO Sam Oeun gave the feedback and comment for the whole group how to improve the facilitation skills.

In the afternoon, Ms. KAO Sokdeth led the participants in fulfill the Capacity Need Assessment for the next following workshops. Based on the results of assessment, the participants need some topic include communication skills, empathy, problem solving in positive way, and more practice of facilitation skills.

The facilitator provided a chance for participants to develop individual plan of action by following the format contributed. The facilitator also suggested that next workshops, all of you will report your achievements based on plan of action that you have been developed. The last activity, all participants completed a sheet of workshop evaluation form. A full day workshop was finished by following schedule and good atmosphere.
