Girls Speak Out Workshop on 27th January 2008
On 27th January 2008, the Advocacy Program Team of COSECAM, conducted a one-day-workshop at COSECAM Office for the Girls Speak Out (GSO) group which included participants from HCC, KMR, CWDA, KnK, CCPCR, Goutte D’eau and Garment Factory. The workshop started at 8 o’clock and ended at five o’clock.
The objectives of the workshop were:
- To teach the girls how to meditate and inform them the benefits of meditation in terms of problem resolution and dealing with stressful situations.
- To educate participants about the concept of advocacy, the different types of advocacy and advocacy methods.
- To learn how to best respond to a trafficking situation through role play.
- To brainstorm new activities for the next workshop and evaluate the workshop
Mr. Keo Chamroeun, Advocacy and Research Program Officer, COSECAM, opened the workshop by welcoming and introducing facilitators to participants and presenting the workshop objectives.
Ms. Paula Stratton, Technical Advisor explained the concept of meditation, some of benefits of meditation and the different techniques of meditation. Then Ms. Pok Bunna from CCPCR-Svay Rieng coordinated the participants to meditate basing on her experience. After meditation, any problems the participants experienced were discussed and solutions were brainstormed by the group.
Mr. Ny KeoPonha, Advocacy and Research Program Assistant, COSECAM, introduced the concept of advocacy and discussed the different types of advocacy and advocacy methods so participants became aware of what advocacy looks like in action. After the presentation, he led the group to act out a role play about “Child Protection”.
The last session, Ms. Kao Sokdeth, IHRD Program Assistant, COSECAM, brainstormed new initiatives and prioritized them for next workshop. After that, she gave the evaluation form to participants in order to evaluate the workshop.
Results from the workshop were positive. Participants reported to find the sessions helpful. They gained confidence in public speaking, understood the concept of advocacy and the benefits and techniques of meditation. Participants also enjoyed the chance to network and learn from other participants.
