COSECAM Meets Sub-Grantees to Review Project Implementation
COSECAM Coalition, through its CETHCam project which is funded by European Union through ICCO, brought together all its service providers and partner in mid-January to review their achievements and highlight the challenges facing them during the project implementation.
The one-day meeting, participated by around twenty representatives from COSECAM's service providers, partner and staff, also discussed their next work-plans, actions to be carried out, and resolutions to the current challenges.
The service providers and partner of COSECAM include sixteen nongovernmental organizations who all work commonly on combating human trafficking and sexual exploitation and victim assistance. The service providers and partner have all received funding from COSECAM for two years and are expected continue their activities in the third year.
In his opening remarks, COSECAM Coalition Director, Mr. Tuon Vicheth, has offered an apology and regret for late funding due to some technical problems.
"As of today, the funding situation is fine. I would like to assure that. As seen, COSECAM has resumed its field visits and conducted the follow-up of the project implementation by its sub-grantees," said Mr. Tuon Viceth.
The service providers and partners then presented their project achievements and implementation challenges to the meeting.
In its presentation, HAGAR reported that it assisted a total of 531 clients in 2010 through funding from the CETHCam project. The clients it received were victims of trafficking, labor exploitation, rape, and domestic violence.
Destiny Rescue Cambodia reported that it has assisted and reintegrated at least forty young girls.
Legal Support for Children and Women (LSCW) said that from 2009 until at the end of 2010, it has provided legal support within a total of 167 cases. LSCW said that one of the challenges was that local authorities have limited knowledge of legal aspects.
KnK Cambodia presented that it assisted 128 children and adults in 2010; meanwhile, Cambodian Defenders Project (CDP) said it received 145 cases.
Based on the presentations by those service providers and partner, one of the challenges currently facing them was funding constraints.
