COSECAM Leaders Attend International Conference in Australia

COSECAM Director, Mr. Toun Vicheth, and Technical Coordination Unit Coordinator of the CETHCam project, Mr. Chum Phally, attended the Asia Pacific Regional Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect in Perth, Western Australia from the 15th to 19th November 2009.

The theme of the conference was ‘Child Abuse and Neglect: Looking through the lens of prevention in recognition of the need’. The aim of the conference was to exchange ideas and practices to develop networking opportunities for delegates, to develop a common understanding across different professions, cultures, and geographical locations, and to identify approaches and solutions that could be adopted across the region.

The conference focused on Child Prevention Systems across the region and explored holistic approaches. Furthermore, attendees explored effective ways to engage children, families and community leaders, professionals, businessmen, non-governmental organizations and agencies, in preventing child abuse.

COSECAM Director, Mr. Tuon Vicheth, says, "Child abuse and neglect is a common theme which is happening everywhere in the world, though the degree of abuse and neglect may vary. It is important that we all work together to address the problems by sharing experiences, networking, and developing holistic approach towards the step by step reduction and elimination of child abuse."

The conference was attended by approximately 300 people from 40 countries which included those in the Asia-Pacific Region, the United States and the United Kingdom.
