International Conference on "Mobility Patterns of Cambodian and Other Nationals in the South-east Asia Region"

Background

Five agencies have formed the North-East Research Group (NERG) to conduct studies on migration and human trafficking in and through Cambodia; the participating agencies are Chap Dai Coalition, COSECAM, IOM, Oxfam Quebec and UNIAP. NERG will be organising an International Conference in Phnom Penh co-hosted by the Royal Government on 14 – 15 – 16 December 2009 on “Mobility Patterns of Cambodian and other nationals in the South-east Asia Region”.

Purposes

The purpose of the conference is to bring together stakeholders and discuss the merits of the existing information and the conclusions that can be drawn for future programs. Researchers and practitioners are invited to make presentations on issues and interventions to address migration and human trafficking in the region. We call for case studies or project interventions to be presented at the conference during 15 minutes with a more comprehensive paper to be included in the conference book that will be published afterwards.

Topics

The range of topics varies from:

  • Migration flows;
  • Human trafficking practices;
  • Law-enforcement to prosecution of offenders, and
  • Services to victims
